Great for Running and Hiking in the Hills

Like the previous reviewer, these are my second pair of XT Wings 2 GTX. I didn't need any break in time for either pair. When I bought my first pair, I found them to be roomier at the toe than my regular XT Wings 2 without Gortex (GTX). As a result, I ended up wearing my XT Wings 2 GTX all the time, even when I didn't need water protection. My regular ones just collected dust lying in the closet. When they finally wore out from so much wear, I decided to try the Solomon XA Pro 3D GTX because it was much easier to find in my size-8.5. BIG mistake!! After about 3 hours, the top of my feet began aching and my toes felt squished on the downhill. I returned them and starting searching for my second pair of XT Wings 2 GTX. The noticeably wider toe area than the XA Pro, their excellent fit for my narrow ankles, and their overall greater comfort made it well-worth the search. I wear them rain or shine over loose dirt, gravel, and rocky terrains for hours and they keep my feet happy and dry right out of the box. I have NEVER had a blister with any of my Solomons and didn't even know what moleskin was until a friend showed me hers. They fit true to size. No need to size up even if you wear an othotic, like I. They're quite sturdy even though they're so lightweight. I highly recommend these shoes on the trail for both running and hiking (I do both). However, since I will need more ankle support for extended hiking in Iceland this summer, I just purchased the Solomon Comet 3D GTX hiking boot. I've been wearing Salomons for years and will probably never switch brands. Why should I? I'll stick to the saying, "If the shoe fits...wear it!"

Great shoes, weird sizing

I love Salomon shoes, the quality is amazing and not having laces to deal with is great, but Salomon's sizes run so big I had to buy 2 sizes down my regular size to finally get it close to a perfect fit.

Second pair I've owned, but not the last. Very comfortable, although it did need some breaking in when I got them. Good foot cushioning, so your feet don't take the full impact of your steps. Feet stay dry in the rain; I never had a problem with any water leaking in. Love the quick release system. Very easy to adjust tightness as needed. I've been doing a lot of hiking, so these have been great!
