The Cascadia 8 was designed from the gritty, wet, and uneven ground up. Engineered to adapt to the surface and your foot, this versatile piece of equipment runs an ultramarathon and then asks for more. We swapped out the midsole for BioMoGo DNA to create a super cohesive transition and deluxe-ified the Caterpillar Crash Pad on the lateral side to smooth that heel-to-toe even more. The suede geometric pattern on the upper is a shout-out to past Cascadia designs but also serves the function of wrapping the foot for a close fit. Don't just take our word for it: Runner's World named the Cascadia 8 its "Editor's Choice" in the Trail Shoe Guide in the April 2013 issue and wrote, "The Cascadia has that rare combination of road-shoe comfort and trail-shoe ruggedness." In short, the Cascadia 8 offers "A well-cushioned and smooth ride on any surface." Please note: The Cascadia is intended as a trail running shoe. It is not pack-rated and may not hold up to the extra weight and demands of long pack hikes. We're your go-to option for trail runs, but a sturdy hiking boot would be better suited for the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, or other long pack trips. size up

i size up a while size in this shoe.i've fortunately only had a wonderful experience running in this shoe. i love this brand and shoe model and have pretty much been running exclusively in the brooks cascadia since its inception. i feel bad that the other reviewer had such a terrible experience because it's a shame that he/she won't be wearing this shoe anymore. i can say only good things about this shoe. i have horrible, end stage arthritis in my right knee, and these provide me with the cushioning and control my body needs to stay on the trails. i've been running for 20 years and have worn all other shoe brands, and i'm still in love with the cascadia. its transition is extremely smooth, and they feel like slippers on my feet. i have hypersensitive feet, and i hate being able ti feel rocks under my feet, but with this shoe, i eat up the trails. i feel pretty invincible in these. the laces are the perfect length, and the shoe is extremely sturdy and can be used for longer than most other shoes, especially if you purchase some insoles when they start getting older. superfeet make decent insoles.

Fell Apart on First Run

I bought these shoes for a trip to Southern Utah where I planned to do a lot of trail running and hiking. Five miles into my first trail run I felt my right shoe loosening and when I bent to adjust the laces I realized that one of the four "loop" eyelets had broken. I relaced the shoe to skip the broken eyelet and continued. A few miles later, a second eyelet broke. The shoes have a set of eyelets formed by loops that are glued, not sewn, into place, and those are the ones that broke - maybe I got a lemon shoe, but that's just poor contruction for shoes meant for rough terrain. I'm now in the process of trying to get a refund. I would not recommend these shoes to anyone who plans to run steep trails.

This is my first pair of Brooks, and I was so happy about how comfortable they were straight out of the box. I ordered my standard half size larger than my foot size, and they have plenty of space. I also haven't broken any eyelets yet. I've worn them three times, and so far everything has held together for the trails and been super comfortable.
