Comfy, light, great traction, neutral control

It's too bad the previous reviewer got a bad pair of these. I hiked in them happily all summer and the traction was better than just about any pair of hikers I've had. I also like that these don't have pronation control, since I don't have that problem. Great cushioning too.My only complaint, and it applies to all athletic footwear these days, is that the sole is wearing out after one season. All my walking and hiking shoes seem to be made to wear out quickly, a la planned obsolescence. I may be picky, but I think athletic shoes should last more than one season! They used to in the old days. I had a pair of Vasque hiking boots that I finally gave away because I got sick of them. Guess I'll have to spend a coupla hundred bucks for some serious big clunky hiking boots if I want the durability. I've been told that the newer materials are lighter, that that's what people want, but this person would like to break in a pair of hiking shoes and wear them for say, 2 or 3 years.

Loved the shoe until I hiked in it

I write this as a warning: this shoe totally went to pieces on me as soon as I started using it. It was wonderfully comfortable in the store, light, flexy, and I was super stoked. Then I took it out on the trails in New Hampshire and immediately noticed a lack of traction. I was slipping all over the place on rocks that I was used to climbing easily. About 9 miles in, I took a tremendous digger on a piece of sloping rock -- worst fall I've ever had -- and couldn't understand why. When I finished my hike, I checked the bottom of the shoes to find that the green "sticky rubber" contact points were actually flaking off the shoe and a few of them had come off entirely. The retailer speculated that the rubber on that batch of shoes hadn't set correctly and very kindly took them back, but I was bruised (literally) all the same. La Sportiva is an incredible outfitter, but I felt I should give a heads up about this particular model.Safe hiking!

Good for distance runs

I run ultra marathons and train on extremely technical and rocky trails in the blue ridge mountains. These shoes have taken place of my old Montrail Continental Divide's and I love them. Nice and wide in the toe and great traction. I have worn these shoes for the 50k and 50m distance races and they have preformed exactly as I expected.****The only reason these did not receive the full 5 stars is the insert that came with the shoe. The insert will bunch and end up in the toe of the shoe when running down hills!!!! I experienced this during a 50k race, it was awful. However, I took an insert from another shoe, placed it into the Wildcats, and never experienced the problem again.
