SHAPE Magazine has awarded the SwitchbackTM 2 Low a SHAPE Shoe Award for 2011, in the Trail Running/Best For Distance category. They appreciated its roomy toe box, supportive arches and secure fit. One of their testers (a half marathoner) called it "a solid combination of support, cushioning, and stability." They also praised its overall lightweight-thanks to its Techlite® midsole, they're lighter than many road-runners in their class. Omni-Grip® traction on the rubber sole grips rocks, dirt, mud and just about anything else you encounter on off-road adventures. Breathable mesh and a soft material in the flex zones mean superior comfort with great agility and ease of movement. The gusseted tongue keeps out rocks, sticks, and dirt while light, sinewy overlays offer additional protection without adding unnecessary bulk.

Compared to Merrills, lightweight good - much less support bad

I usually hike in Merrills. I also walk long distance (I'm talking 4-6 hours)on the treadmill at home while I work ([...] - I do not work forthis company it's just a cool thing)...so I need good shoes. These shoes (for my8.5 size feet were too big. I ordered larger due to the ratings and returned these.I also ordered the 8.5 and kept those. The inner material is NOT soft - and thickis better than thin, when it comes to socks ...I wear these to avoid blisters (medium weight)injinji Performance Mini Crew Toesocks) ... So I'm keeping the8.5. VERY LITTLE support in these shoes... my feet ache after hours of walkingbut no blisters either. Replaced the flimsy insole with very rubbery thicker insole /back of my heel hurt before I did this - the heel in the back is too high / too not soft too.Width is fantastic for my very wide feet --- these fit more like C/D with --- narrowfeet will not like these shoes! I expect them to wear down fast, not much too themsuper light and sacraficed inner arch and stability support - but for now, they'rechosen over my Merrills - only because they are so much lighter. I'll watch this style in thefuture ---- maybe they'll lower the back of the heel and add a better insole/inner support.Will mean the weight goes up, but at this weight - it could gain a little and there'd beno loss. The look (I got the gray) is an ugly yellow bottom.... but I didn't want coloron the top so that's what I get. If you have wide feet and don't need much ooomph ina shoe, this might be the one for you.

I did alot of research to find the right shoe for my needs, and when I bought these I still wasn't sure it would be a right buy, fortunately they are by far the best running shoes I have thus far had the pleasure of wearing!

Nice Shoes

These are very nice quality shoes and very comfortable. My one complaint is that the back of the shoe angles back and really irritated the top of my ankle. I wore these with low socks and ended up bloody. I wore them with thick socks and went on a hike without an issue. I'm still working on some sort of solution to maybe pull the ankle thing back as other than that I'm happy with them!
