We constructed an outsole with an aggressive, multi-directional lug pattern for better grip on the ever-changing surfaces of adventure. Its concave shape delivers better balance by splaying out upon impact and creating more surface area for ground contact. With blazing colors, you'll light the trail on fire. Metaphorically. We're not the only people thrilled with the changes: Runner's World named the PureGrit 2 "Best Update" in the Trail Shoe Guide in the April 2013 issue. Sure, the editors noted the updates to the upper, what with the thinner and lighter materials, asymmetrical lacing, and burrito-wrap tongue. But as they wrote, "it's underfoot where we noted the most meaningful change. The first version of the shoe had a clever outsole pattern that held well on loose dirt, but its swirly, pointed tread proved slick on rocks and roads. This update gets a more traditional design - diamond-shaped lugs have sharp edges that bite into nearly any surface." VERY pleased so far

I selected these shoes mostly for the outdoor trail. Using my Brooks Adrenaline as the season warms up, they are just too much shoe for me --and actually how built up they are made me roll my ankle a few times. These Pure Grit 2 are noticeably light and lower to the ground making it so ankle rolls went from about 2 per run to zero (running on uneven ground). I also could notice the wide forefoot with substantial grip--the tread pattern seems to be effective. In the beginning of my run I noticed some slipping in the heel but over the course of a few mile (mostly uphill) this wasn't bothering me and there was no break in period needed. I think the cushioning falls within my favorite spot--somewhere between minimal and average--making my foot strike natural yet not feeling every rock on the road. I tend to not enjoy runs over 5 miles so I cannot speak to distance runs. I have a wide flexible foot without actually needing wide shoes. Glad I got these. They remind me a bit of my brooks green silence (which are discontinued but I use at the gym)-

Best Trail Shoes

I bought this shoe because I've always wanted a pair of Brooks running shoes. I went with the trail shoes because I run on trails around my house. When I first put the shoes on they felt like wearing super comfortable slippers. I've run in them maybe 6 times now with no issues! They are great, no blisters, smushed toes or any issues. I've run over wet rocks with no slipping. I have a bunion. The wide toe box is greatly appreciated, no more bunion pain! The shoes are expensive but well worth the money! Order a half size larger than normal. I usually wear 8s but got an 8.5 and they fit perfectly. The brooks website will tell you to order a half size larger.

Best running shoes I have ever put on my feet. I will keep getting PureGrits for my trail runs! They work fine on road, but not recommended.
